March 2012

Posted by Stan Levine on Monday, March 5, 2012, In : The Artist's Journal
Last month I joined the Lamorinda Arts Alliance.  I am looking forward to painting with there plein air painting group this week.  It turns out that my instructor Mira White is a member of the LAA too.  I am looking forward to making new creative and artistic friends.  Here is one of my recent drawings that I drew as part of a study in the class I am taking with Mira White:

24" X 30"
Acrylic on Canvas
by Stan Levine

When I paint on a canvas as big as this, I have to have a reason; I have to be inspired.  I have an archive of photos my wife takes from her Nikon that I go through when I need a reason to paint where I found a fantastic landscape of Mendocino's coast.  I like how the light travels through the painting along with the water.  There's something about it that makes me think of breathing in a meditative state.
Before I painted "Breath," I began wit...

May 26 2010 What I've Been Working On

Posted by Stan Levine on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, In : The Artist's Journal
It seems that I just can't make up my mind about what I want to specialize in.  I am so talented at so many things, that when I try to commit to just one discipline of the arts I feel trapped; like my fate has been sealed and there's no time anymore for self discovery.  Then every day is like a repeat of the last one, and that is just not good, so I had to jump out of painting for a little while and learn somethings about Flash Actionscript programming, and Javascript.  I've been learning abo...

What I've Been Working On

Posted by Stan Levine on Friday, April 30, 2010, In : The Artist's Journal
On April 18, 2010 I found an art coach.  In a book I've been reading called "How To Get Started Selling Your Art" (surefire methods and expert advise lead you to sales of your art) by Carole Katchen I read on page 24 that every artist needs a mentor, or someone who knows the art business that has time to help you make good decisions about selling your art.  My first assignments from my art coach, Paula Swenson, was to create a physical embodiment of my muse, keep a list of what I am feeling w...

Acrylic Tribute Portrait Painting of Corey Haim By Stan Levine

Posted by Stan Levine on Thursday, March 25, 2010, In : Acrylic Paintings by Stan Levine
Corey Haim was a famous teen actor that lived from December 23, 1971 and recently died on March 10, 2010 (38 years old) as a possible result of a drug overdose.  It was known that Corey was troubled by drug addiction through out the later portion of his acting career. I remember him as Sam, from the movie "The Lost Boys," directed by Joel Shumacher in 1987.  He played the role of Michael's little brother.  Michael (Jason Patric) was lured into a family of vampires by "David," (Kiefer Sutherla...

Samson Rebirth
14" X 18"
Acrylic on Canvas Board (unframed)
By Stan Levine

Samson was my brother's dog who recently passed. I used a photo reference I found on Facebook to paint this pet portrait. As I was painting Samson, I felt his presence around me. It was almost as if my painting somehow invoked the spirit of the dog around me. I could even smell his distinct canine smell in the room. Samson is a very loyal dog who protects the innocent with his strong canine powers.

I began this paintin...

New Orleans Railroad
36" X 36"
Acrylic on Canvas
By Stan Levine

Last night I painted this acrylic landscape of some railroad tracks near the Mississippi River in New Orleans.  It was Mardi Gras, and I really wanted to walk down Bourbon Street with my wife and a large Rat Attack.  New Orleans is a magical place of art and happy people.  There is so much to do and see in this fun-filled town.  By day you can see the French Quarter.  Enjoy delicious beignets with chicory coffee at CafĂ© du ...
